Ronald Wilson Obituary

Ronald Earl Wilson, age 94 of Bald Creek, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 13th, 2022 at his home, surrounded by family. A native of Yancey County, he was born November 2nd, 1927 in Bald Creek, North Carolina to the late Earl and Rhoda Sprinkle Wilson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ruby Lee Brinkley Wilson; their firstborn daughter, Sharon Lynne Wilson; and two of his sisters, Ruth Caldwell and Jan Laughridge.

Following high school, he went on to serve his country in the Navy during WWII. He then returned home to meet and marry Ruby Brinkley, the love of his life. After moving to and living in various parts of North Carolina, he retired from UNC Greensboro and then returned home to Bald Creek. His favorite hobbies were gardening when he was able, and most of all, spending time with his family and his church family. The Wilson family reunion, held every 4th of July at his homeplace for many years, was something he always looked forward to.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Dawn and very special son-in-law, Bobby Wyrick; granddaughters: Cynthia (Steve) Ayers and Patricia (Johnny) Coleman; great-granddaughter, Ashland (Josh) Edwards; great-grandsons: Dillon (Alyssa) Jones, Brandon (Sydney) Zimmerman, and Cole Zimmerman; great-great-grandson, Brantlee Edwards; sisters: Beryl King and Margaret (Milton) Young; brother, Dean (Marilyn) Wilson; and special friends, Ron and Nan Proffitt. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Ron was a faithful member and treasurer of the charge at Bald Creek Methodist Church for the past 30 years. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the church for all the love, support and prayers during Ron’s sickness. A special thank you also to Kim of Compassionate Care of Yancey County and to all the staff at Mission Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 15th at Bald Creek Methodist Church at 6 p.m. The family will receive friends and loved ones an hour prior to service time. Reverend Keith Haverkamp will officiate. If so inclined, memorial donations may be made in Ron’s honor for the maintenance and upkeep of the Bald Creek Methodist Church Cemetery Fund. Donations can be sent to: C/O Nan Proffitt at 43 Beechwood Drive, Burnsville, NC 28714.
