Jeter Young Obituary

Jeter Robert Young, known to many as “J.R.”, age 86 of Burnsville, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September 16th, 2020. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Jeter and Selila Young. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Anthony Young. J.R. was a retired U.S. Army Veteran with 23 years of service.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 loving years, Freda Marie Henson Young; daughters: Sheila Darder Bonilla of the home, Donna J. Paige of Atlanta, GA, Delores Chaffin of Montgomery, AL, Teressa M. Carrington of New Bern, NC; brother, John Beecher Griffith of Columbia, SC; sisters, Violet Henson of Burnsville, NC and Patty Lou Watkins of Winston Salem, NC. 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren also survive.

Friends and family that desire to pay their respect may come by Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday, September 20th. Services will be held Monday, September 21st at 1 p.m. in Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. Reverend Joe Bennett will be officiating. Pall Bearers will be Rafi Darder, Nicholas Smith, Kevin Watkins, Terry Smith, Billy Watkins and Carlos Smith. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Melvin Henson, John Griffith, Walter Henson and Lenard Smith. Grave rites will be provided by SGT E.L. Randolph, Chapter 57 DAV.

Due to COVID restrictions, the cemetery is not accepting flowers at this time. The family requests they be omitted. Memorials may be made to Compassionate Care of Western North Carolina, Georges Fork Road in Burnsville, North Carolina.
